Camp Lejeune Justice Bill Awaits President Biden’s Signature
A bill that would provide compensation for victims of the Camp Lejeune water contamination is ready for President Joe Biden’s signature. The Honoring our PACT Act of 2022 has officially passed the House and the Senate.
In early March 2022, the House of Representatives passed the Honoring our PACT Act of 2022 by a vote of 256 to 174. Last week, the Senate voted 84 to 14.
The Honoring out PACT Act of 2022 addresses health care for veterans who were exposed to toxic substances during their service. It includes the Camp Lejeune Justice Act of 2022.
Camp Lejeune Justice Act of 2022
The Camp Lejeune Justice Act of 2022 allows certain individuals to sue the US government and potentially recover damages for harm resulting from exposure to contaminated water at Camp Lejeune. Individuals must have been at the North Carolina base between August 1 1953, and December 31, 1987.
Victims also must have been at Camp Lejeune for at least 30 days during that time. Additionally, individuals must have suffered illness caused by exposure or linked to exposure to the water.
The bill prevents the US government from claiming immunity from litigation in response to water contamination lawsuits related to Camp Lejeune. Time will be limited to file a claim, so we encourage anyone who was at Camp Lejeune during that time to call us immediately.
